Travelers Rest takes over three Greenville County parks

On November 26, 2024 by John Orona
Trailblazer Park, along with two other Travelers Rest parks, will be transferred to the city from Greenville County.

Three Greenville County owned and operated parks are being transferred to the city of Travelers Rest.

The 13.4-acre Gateway Park, 38-acre Trailblazer Park, and the 4.5-acre Poinsett Park will be administered by the growing city after the Greenville County Council unanimously approved the transfer at their November 19 special meeting.

According to the meeting agenda notes, Travelers Rest offered to take over the ownership, maintenance, and future development of the parks, with the county council finding that the city’s “growth and recreational programming have positioned it strategically to continue developing and managing” them.

The city of Travelers Rest has also agreed to continue the current recreational programs offered by Greenville County for the next two years. After two years, the city will be responsible for its own recreational programs but will ensure they will be offered to county residences at the same rate as Travelers Rest residents.

Poinsett Park, located at 5 Pine Forest Road, is one of the county’s most visited, featuring a quarter-mile long walking trail, a playground, green space, and picnic shelters.

Gateway Park, at 115 Henderson Drive, offers mountain bike trails, a baseball and football field, a basketball court, tennis courts, a picnic area, and a playground, all with close access to the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail.

Trailblazer Park, located at 235 Trailblazer Drive, hosts cherished community events throughout the year, from the Travelers Rest Farmers Market and its Food Truck Rodeo, to Movies in the Park and the Music in the Park Concert Series.
